Meeting and finding a community of like-minded therapists

In 2022, a therapist conference was held in Nashville, Tennessee, where Veronica and today’s guests all met for the first time.

Someone, maybe Laurel, had created an app that they had, kind of like a dating app for group private practice owners to meet up or schedule events, so she scheduled this lunch and we went to it, met each other, and had such a great time that we forgot about the conference a little bit and did not return on time! (Courtney Glashow)

Often, meeting other therapists is tough since it can be an isolating job.

You spend hours a day with clients, and hardly ever connect with fellow therapists to either help each other grow your businesses, refer clients, or simply just form connections in your community.

It is also especially helpful when you can connect with other business owners who work with the same or similar business model.

I felt isolated, and I felt like I could figure this all out, but wouldn’t it be so much better to have a community of people that could help support you, bounce ideas off of, and learn from? (Courtney Glashow)

The first mastermind group

When the group first got together after they formed connections for the first mastermind session, it bloomed instantly.

All the business partners or owners got into a rhythm of sharing their fears, uncertainties, challenges, and excitements all through gifting and honoring one another with radical honesty, accountability, and attention.

Even if you don’t have a conference to go to, identifying similar businesses. Don’ be afraid to reach out to a strange business owner, and I’ve done it before! (Amy Goldstein)

Be determined to find your group, because they are out there.

When you reach out to those around you – with authenticity and vulnerability – you will often be surprised by how much – and how many – people respond to you.

Once you become an entrepreneur, there’s all kinds of obstacles we run into. But when you surround yourself in a community with like-minded individuals, that willingness alone provides everyone with this opportunity to learn and grow from one another. (Veronica Cisneros)

Find answers to your challenges in your group

Working in a mastermind group not only soothes the loneliness that can come with being a CEO, but it also presents an incredible opportunity for you to brainstorm and creatively solve problems.

Everyone faces a similar type of issue, especially private practice owners, as they will be navigating similar challenges but in slightly different contexts.

If you have been stuck chewing on a problem for weeks, or months, wouldn’t it be great to get some advice from someone who both knows what it feels like and can give you a new perspective?

Some of the areas that are challenging for me are brought to light, and I’m able to get a full, comprehensive plan on the systems that I need to put in place, or the questions that I need to ask to get to that next level, and I wouldn’t be able to do that by myself. There’s no way I’d be able to get there alone. (Veronica Cisneros)

The group’s advice to fellow entrepreneurs

  • Surround yourself with people that are smarter than you and have had more experience than you to learn from
  • Constantly strive to learn, research, and upskill because you can find a lot for free!
  • Find a community that you know supports you and that you can lend your support to
  • Show up as your full, true self because your authenticity is more powerful than you realize

Hello, my name is Veronica Cisneros, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Marriage Coach, Course Creator, Retreat Host, Mother of 3, married for 23 years, host of the Empowered and Unapologetic podcast, and owner of a group private practice called Outside The Norm Counseling.

A lot of couples struggle with setting aside intentional time to connect and communicate. They yearn for meaningful conversations that don’t lead to arguments.

1 month away from divorce, I realized I had to do something different. For years I had compromised myself to meet the needs of my husband and my child, I lost myself and was about to lose my marriage. After years of personal growth and self-reflection, I not only reclaimed my identity, and celebrated 23 years of marriage but also helped hundreds of couples transform their marriage from feeling like roommates to experiencing a deeper love.

I am on a mission to help couples reignite the fire by providing them with the skills to have the relationship they deserve.
