Ever wondered what it takes to build a thriving business and lead a team to success?

Megan McShane is the kind of powerhouse who gets it—balancing a thriving business with a rich personal life. We talked about the ups and downs, the challenges, and the wins that come with being a high-achieving woman trying to do it all.

In this conversation, Megan McShane opens up about her journey of personal growth and leadership, shaped by her parents’ guidance and her own experiences. She delves into the power of embracing challenges, seeing them not as setbacks but as opportunities to grow. For Megan, leadership is about inspiring others, staying true to your values, and being accountable. She shares practical tips on creating a culture of accountability and growth, from setting clear expectations to understanding team dynamics.

Megan also talks about the importance of surrounding yourself with supportive, successful people, joining mastermind groups, and finding a mentor. Whether it’s building a thriving team, fostering a strong company culture, or giving back to the community, Megan’s insights are packed with valuable lessons for aspiring entrepreneurs.

“That’s why in our group, we have people who financially, their businesses are at six, seven, eight, even nine figures, but maybe their relationships are suffering. And then we have people who are just starting off their business and their relationships are great, but it’s like the yin to the yang.” – Megan McShane

Summary

  • Embracing Challenges and Finding Growth
  • Creating a Culture of Accountability and Growth Setting Clear Goals and Executing Your Plans
  • Creating a Thriving Team: Strategies for Success

No matter where you are in your journey, we all need support. And it’s beautiful to see how we can come together and learn from one another.

Cultivating a Strong, Motivated Team

Megan and I both agree—having a strong and motivated team is essential. I asked her, “What strategies can you give us to help us cultivate that?” Megan didn’t hold back. She emphasized the importance of having Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place so that everyone knows exactly where to find answers, no matter the department.

“Having very clear KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) so that everybody’s on the same page and knows what’s going on is key>” – Megan McShane

Let me tell you, that level of transparency in a business can truly be a game changer. But here’s what really stood out—Megan talked about the importance of culture and community.

“Everyone on my team believes in our product. They believe in the mission of the business. They don’t have to be cheerleaders, but I want them to believe in it because if your team doesn’t believe in what you’re doing, they’re on the front line.” – Megan McShane

If your team isn’t invested, it shows. It’s all about creating a space where people feel included and part of something bigger.

Creating a Thriving Environment

Naturally, I had to ask, “How do you do that? Do you guys go to retreats? Have seances? What’s the secret?” Megan laughed and shared that they do a one or two-day executive team meeting once a year. During these meetings, they dive deep into every aspect of the business, looking at what’s working, what’s not, and setting clear goals for the upcoming year. She mentioned they like to have these meetings around October, to have everything in place before the new year starts—no playing catch-up once January hits!

And Megan’s not just about the grind. She’s big on team-building too. “We do three retreats a year for our clients, and our team is part of that. They’re not just working—they’re part of the community,” she shared. And I love this approach because it’s about inclusivity and recognizing that your team is just as much a part of your success as your clients are.

Retreats with Purpose: Mixing Business with Personal Growth

Let me tell you, Megan’s retreats sound like a dream! Each one focuses on one of the four F’s: Family, Faith, Fitness, and Finance. She shared that for their faith retreat this September, they’re heading to Italy, covering Rome and the Amalfi Coast. And guess who’s joining them? James Twyman, the author of The Moses Code. He’ll be there to guide the group through the spiritual side of things, alongside morning content sessions and breathtaking afternoon excursions. And if that wasn’t enough, they top off each day with five-star dining experiences. I told her, “I’m coming to one of these retreats. Hell yeah, I’m in!” Seriously, who wouldn’t want to recharge in such an inspiring way?

Megan pointed out that as business owners and entrepreneurs, it’s so important to fill your own cup so that you can pour into your team, your business, your family, and your community.

“When we don’t take time for self-care and to take care of ourselves, to grow and expand in a community, we’re missing out.” – Megan McShane

I couldn’t agree more. It’s about stepping outside our usual environment, immersing ourselves in different cultures, and seeing what the world has to offer.

Giving Back: Making an Impact

One thing that truly sets Megan’s retreats apart is their dedication to giving back. For each retreat, they include an “impact project,” a day dedicated to helping the local community. Last year, they were in Rwanda at a school for single mothers. These young girls, some as young as twelve, were disowned by their families, often due to traumatic circumstances. The school not only provided them a safe place to stay but taught them skills like sewing, cooking, and cleaning. Megan’s team went in, helped with whatever was needed, and really made a difference.

“We always want to leave a place better than it was when we got there,” she said. This isn’t just about business—it’s about making a real impact on the world.

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs and Busy Moms

We wrapped up our chat with some advice for those of you looking to turn your vision into reality. Megan was crystal clear on the importance of setting goals. “Get really clear on your goals and your outcomes. That starts with a plan,” she advised. And she’s not just talking about setting goals and forgetting them. She stressed the importance of writing them down—there’s something powerful about the connection from your brain, to your hand, to the paper.

Megan also spoke about the importance of action.

“Break your goals down—monthly, three months, six months, a year. Then get to work. It’s about execution.” – Megan McShane

It’s not always easy, especially when juggling family and work, but even setting aside 20 minutes a day can make a huge difference. Megan reminded us that this quiet time, especially after a meditation, can be when the best ideas come to light.

Success Leaves Clues

One of the best pieces of advice Megan shared was this: “Success leaves clues.” She encouraged finding someone who’s already doing what you want to do and learning from them. Whether it’s through social media, community connections, or just reaching out for a conversation—there’s so much to gain from following in the footsteps of those who have already paved the way.

And you know what? I’ve seen this in my own journey. When I stopped being afraid to ask questions and started reaching out, I was amazed at how many people were willing to help. There’s this incredible community out there, ready to support, share, and guide you along the way.

So, ladies, if you’re ready to take the next step, get clear on those goals, find your tribe, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. As Megan says, there’s enough out there for everyone. Let’s go after it!
