Who are you? Are you happy? Are you having fun? Are you miserable? Do you feel stuck? Five years from now? What does your life look like?

So here we go, join me on this podcast episode as I teach you how to stop making excuses and step into action to create your 5 year plan.

Why five years?

10 years is too long. 10 years feels like an eternity away and so you may not be motivated to make changes.

Two years is too short. It is the year after the next, and it may feel almost too close to make any real change before time is up.

Five years is just right … think about it, what comes up for you? In five years from now, if nothing was to change, would you be happy? Are you happy right now? (Veronica Cisneros)

If your life were to go on exactly as it has been for the next five years, how does that make you feel? Does it make you excited or nervous?

Depending on your honest answer, you need to sit down with yourself and make a concerted effort to uplift and recreate your life so that you enjoy living it.

Create your five-year plan: step 1

Think about what you want your life to look like:

  • Who are you?
  • What is your daily routine like?
  • What do your relationships look like?
  • How do you feel?

Here you can brag. For right now, brag all about how amazing your life is. Think outside of the box. Let your imagination flow.

If you were to wake up tomorrow and it was five years from now and you and I ran into each other in a parking lot, what would you be excited to tell me? (Veronica Cisneros)

Create your five-year plan: step 2

  • Circle or highlight all of the aspects you wrote down from step one that you want to create in your current life.
  • Take each aspect and think about how it can look in the long- and short-term.
  • Identify three long-term goals and three short-term goals for each aspect.
  • Zero in on one long-term and one short-term goal and break them down into actionable steps, and give yourself an expiration date: how long will it take you to complete this goal? Focus on sustainably meeting this goal.

Create your five-year plan: step 3

Identify five things that will stand in your way to completing your long-term goals and five things that will stand in your way to completing your short-term goals.

These could be:

  • Fear
  • Doubt
  • Inability to challenge yourself and step outside your comfort zone
  • Not believing in yourself

What you can do is live intentionally and if that’s your goal then you can start putting more focus on the things that you want to do versus putting focus on the things you think you have to do. (Veronica Cisneros)

Put your focus on what you can do. Be intentional with your energy, time, and passion. Acknowledge struggle but choose to put your energy into action.

1 – Identify your insecurities with this

2 – Continue to put yourself out there despite these insecurities

3 – How are you showing up for yourself and practicing self-care?

4 – Identify five small but powerful actions to take to achieve your short-term and long-term goals

5 – Envision and be excited about your future life
