In this episode, I talk about the challenges high-achieving women face in balancing their personal and professional lives. I share a personal experience of having to prioritize work over quality time with my daughter, highlighting the constant struggle to meet impossible expectations. I also talk about the emotional toll and mental load that high-achieving women carry, driven by past trauma and societal pressures, emphasizing the need for understanding, support, and empathy from partners and the importance of connecting with a community of like-minded women. Choosing family vs work
Of course, you may not have to completely choose between family or work, but moments can come up where you have to prioritize one over the other, and sometimes you are asked to choose in the same moment.
I wanted to cry. Why? Because damn it! I’m picking my work over my family. Although that’s not 1000% true, that’s exactly what it feels like, and that’s how it’s interpreted. (Veronica Cisneros)
Sometimes your schedule is so jam-packed that scheduling time to spend with your child takes a back seat, and this can be painful for any working parent.

Handling the emotional struggle
Getting everything done is not only a struggle with time, it is also an emotional struggle. Managing and reducing stress, self-regulating, and knowing when you need to ask for help are all things that high-achieving women face every day.
Why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we put ourselves through this relentless cycle of over-commitment and exhaustion? Well, there are several factors at play here! Past childhood trauma, such as feeling the need to constantly prove ourselves, or seeking validation through our achievements; that can drive us to push ourselves beyond our own limits. (Veronica Cisneros)
The relentless pursuit of success can be a way of life that you adopt due to a number of reasons, whether they are conscious or subconscious. This is why you need to take a moment, step back, and address the way that you are living your life.
Is this intentional? Are you choosing this type of chaos because it is familiar to you? Or can you address any underlying issues to finally let this habit go and live differently?

Meet Veronica Cisneros
Hello, my name is Veronica Cisneros, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Marriage Coach, Course Creator, Retreat Host, Mother of 3, married for 23 years, host of the Empowered and Unapologetic podcast, and owner of a group private practice called Outside The Norm Counseling.
A lot of couples struggle with setting aside intentional time to connect and communicate. They yearn for meaningful conversations that don’t lead to arguments.
1 month away from divorce, I realized I had to do something different. For years I had compromised myself to meet the needs of my husband and my child, I lost myself and was about to lose my marriage. After years of personal growth and self-reflection, I not only reclaimed my identity, and celebrated 23 years of marriage but also helped hundreds of couples transform their marriage from feeling like roommates to experiencing a deeper love.
I am on a mission to help couples reignite the fire by providing them with the skills to have the relationship they deserve.
