You’re at the Mall to pick up a few things, and you realize, it’s been months, if not years since you have bought yourself something nice. Then it dawns on you that, you are always worrying about everyone else needs and wants but your own.
Do you build up love for yourself from within yourself, or do you turn to your husband to fill your voids and make you happy? Do you set aside time in a day for yourself to do the things that bring you joy?
In this podcast episode, Petia Kolibova joins me to discuss how she became her best lover. Petia realized that she was outsourcing her happiness and relying on everyone else to make her happy. She put herself first, set boundaries and became the best lover she ever had.

Do not outsource your happiness
If he texts me, I’m happy. If he calls me, I’m happy … but if not, something is wrong with me … I realized that instead of outsourcing my happiness I get to be happy first, so I became the best lover I ever had. (Petia Kolibova)
When your only source of happiness exists outside of you, you run the risk of allowing abuse to receive the happiness and love that you do not give to yourself.
By providing yourself with love and not outsourcing your happiness you hold those around you to a certain standard, and you do not allow yourself to be treated unfairly.
Become your best lover
You can still receive love and support from your partner, but receive it alongside the love that you give to yourself.
Buy yourself flowers, take yourself on dates, buy nice things for yourself, do your favorite activities.
I created a space for myself in the mornings that was absolutely non-negotiable for me because when I treat myself like the queen that I am the world will reflect it to me and people smile at you more … you become magnetic because you are not needy. (Petia Kolibova)
Invest love, attention, time, and energy into yourself and work to fulfill your needs. You do not have to be completely self-sufficient because people work best in communities and relationships, but strive to cover your basic needs, desires, and pleasures.
This will help protect the sanctity of your relationships too because then you will be with someone because you want to be with them, not because you are desperate to be with them for the things they give you that you do not give yourself.
Petia’s advice to overwhelmed mothers
There is nothing wrong with you, because you are perfectly made for your purpose and who you are meant to be.

Meet Veronica Cisneros
I’m a licensed therapist and women walk into my office every day stressed and disconnected. As a mom of three daughters, I want my girls to know who they are and feel confident about their future. I can’t think of a better way to help other women than by demonstrating an empowered and unapologetic life.
So I started Empowered and Unapologetic to be a safe space for women to be vulnerable and change their lives for the better before she ever needs to see a therapist.
